Jonathan Bennett is elected IIHS board chairman

ARLINGTON, VA — The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety is pleased to announce the election of Jonathan Bennett as the new chairman of its Board of Directors. Bennett is executive vice president, personal and small business insurance, at The Hartford. He succeeds Gregory V. Ostergren, chairman, president, and chief executive officer, American National Property and Casualty Companies, who served as IIHS chairman during 2009 and will continue to serve as a member of the Board.

"The Institute's work to help reduce crash injuries, deaths, and property damage on our nation's roads is as important as ever," Bennett says. "IIHS research and communications programs have had a significant and positive impact, and I look forward to working with my colleagues and fellow Board members this year to advance highway safety in the new decade." IIHS president Adrian Lund adds, "Jonathan's strong leadership will help us continue to build on our successful research and crash test programs in 2010."

The new chairman-elect is Steven George, executive vice president, AAA Northern California, Nevada, & Utah. The new vice chairman is Douglas S. Joyce, president, Alfa Alliance Insurance Corporation.
